DePuy Orthopedics has recalled their ASR Hip Products
Johnson and Johnson have quite a problem on their hands. The core of the issues that have been found with the DePuy hips (ASR XL Acetubular and ASR Hip Resurfacing System) are that the parts and pieces do not fit well (both together and within a human body). The fact that they lack of a smooth and effortless fit creates friction and particles that are able to cause inflammation, pain and irritation. The result is that pain, scarring and damage occur to the muscles, nerves and bones that are connected to or near the new metal and artificial hip. It has been said that the company was receiving complaints about the side effects without warning the public or recalling their product for quite some time before finally acting. A startling statistic regarding this is that around 12.5% of those who received a DePuy hip replacement needed to have another surgery or hip procedure done within five years.
Zimmer Duron Cup Recall
This is a very similar case to the defective DePuy ASR recall case in that the company received hundreds of complaints and could see the statistics about their customers needing further hip surgeries. Even with all of that, they did not recall the products or warn their customers. Their product was sometimes called the Zimmer Duron Acetabular Component.
Biomet Hip Replacement Recall
